In 2022, Dave Cousins, the frontman of British folk-prog pioneers Strawbs, travelled to Cape Town for what was intended to be a simple recording session. Instead, facing cancer, he delayed treatment and endured eight months of isolation in order to complete his swansong, The Magic of It All, with a studio band of leading South African musicians. Featuring ex-Strawb and progressive rock icon Rick Wakeman and producer Tony Visconti, this intimate documentary captures an extraordinary period of artistic rebirth, friendship and sacrifice, culminating in a triumphant final performance before 25,000 fans in Oxford. The Magic of It All is a moving tribute to Strawbs and the transcendent power of music in the face of mortality.
