Breathtaking infrared cinematography and a hypnotic Bicep score draw audiences into the spellbinding lands of the Arctic, where a diverse and talented group of Indigenous musicians reflect on culture, colonialism and a rapidly changing world. Meaning “look closely” in Inuktitut, TAKKUUK is a striking collaboration with seven Indigenous artists across Greenland and Sápmi. Created as part of the EarthSonic initiative, the film uses specially built infrared cameras to transform Arctic landscapes into otherworldly visions, while its collaborators explore what it means to preserve language, land and identity amid mounting external pressures and accelerating climate change. Blending sound, storytelling and performance, TAKKUUK moves between documentary realism and artistic abstraction, creating an immersive meditation on cultural resilience and offering Indigenous voices and knowledge systems the opportunity to speak on their own terms.
