A celebration of a musical identity forged through the fight for freedom in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the 1950s, when the country was a Belgian colony, a generation of Congolese musicians fused traditional African rhythms with Afro-Cuban music to create the electrifying beat of Congolese Rumba. It is a beat that would carry the country through its journey to independence and ultimately conquer the African continent with its smooth vocals, captivating guitar licks and infectious grooves.

Event supported by the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery.
